In activity 1 I learned that soil heats up the fastest. When i first started the experiment, I was under the impression that the water would heat up the fastest, and cooled down the fastest. I also made the assumption that the snow would heat up extremally quickally, but as the data shows, i learned that my hypthoisis wasn't true. It relates to my topic of ocean currents because they both deal with convection currents, of extreme temperature changes that create the currents. The warm water rises when the cold air comes in that's what cause ocean currents come from.

Ocean currents
Ocean currents are movements of oceanic water continously. The ocean currents are either hot or cold like rivers that move across the ocean at a steady rate. They are formed from the planet rotation, temperature changes in the ocean and differences in the gravitation of the moon. Ocean currents are able to flow thousands of kilometers and are a key element in determaining the climate of an enviornment, especially those areas closer to the ocean ridge. An example of a popular ocean current is the gulf stream. The ocean currents are measured in sverdrups.

Ocean currents happen in the ocean. Ocean currents are created due to moving winds and waters in the ocean constantally moving. How they move influences climate and living conditions for plants and animals, even on land.
What is needed for the weather conditions to occur:
In order for this to occur there has to be wind involved to create the ocean currents.
The ocean currents affected by wind, the water's salinity and heat content, bottom topography, and the earth's rotation.
What happens to the environment and the people:
When ocean currents take place it effects sea life, and the people on land. Education is important to reducing the costs of shipping since that reduces fuel costs. In the sail-ship era knowledge was even more essential. A good example of this is the Agulhas current, which long prevented Portuguese sailors from reaching India. Even today, the round-the-world sailing competitors employ surface currents to their benefit.
